The City in My Mind
Ever since I returned to San Francisco from New York City two years ago, I have been experiencing random geographic displacements. I'm physically in San Francisco, but subconsciously in New York.

Shanghai Snapshot
New Shanghai – flush with foreign money, embarking on an ambitious development program, and host to a truly international urban culture – sounds oddly familiar. It sounds a lot like old Shanghai: the freewheeling, pre-Communist "Paris of the East" of the 1920s and '30s.

Travelogue: San Diego Serenade
As employment prospects in the Bay Area continue on their dismal downward spiral, I have to move to work. At the invitation of my old friend Brent, I packed up what's left of my business casual wardrobe, shipped Figgy (my cat) off for some quality time with the parents and got on a plane for a 3-week contract job in San Diego.

Travelogue: East Coast Tour Winter '03
Airfare was cheap (JetBlue) and work was slow (i.e., I'm available), so I planned my East Coast Tour '03, a 10-day fest of good friends, good drinks, good food, and good (and bad) art, all amidst the coldest temperatures the East Coast has seen, in, oh, about 30 years or so. Yippee!
